Seniors
Our senior adults are very special
and important to us. We try to have activities that are fun and relaxing as well.
During the past several years, seniors have played bingo and other games at our
community centers. To say they have a good time is an
understatement.
In addition to bingo and other games, nutrition classes are offered. Classes
relate to cooking habits that are healthy, proper checking of blood pressure
and
cholesterol and helpful hints about medications.
The Eufaula Housing Authority provides a transportation service for the elderly
that have no family or adequate means of transportation. Weekly visits to the
doctor, grocery store, drug store, shopping center, banks and to pay bills are
provided at no
charge.
Special events at various times throughout the year include a Mother’s Day luncheon
as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas activities. Christmas gift baskets are
provided for the shut-ins and disabled. In addition, many of our seniors are
involved in volunteering with RSVP in various capacities.
Other programs are offered upon request. Recently, several of our older residents
teamed up with their younger counterparts and planted a community garden. It
was a great success. The younger kids learned a lot, the older adults kept active
and they got to eat the fruits of their labor.
